    Frequently asked questions: dynamic testing

What are universal testing machines used for in dynamic testing?

In dynamic testing they cover the full scope of durability engineering: fatigue from low-cycle (LCF) to high-cycle (HCF), fracture mechanics and crack growth, thermo-mechanical fatigue (with temperature chamber/furnace), multi-axial and axial-torsional testing, wear and service-life testing, dynamic characterisation, and the reproduction of real service loads. Typical fields: materials and component testing, automotive, aerospace and medical technology.

Which drive technologies does DYNA-MESS offer?

All three relevant ones: hydraulic, electric and pneumatic. We match the drive to the testing task and load spectrum – instead of selling one technology for everything.

Are pneumatic testing machines as good as electric or hydraulic ones?

Within their operating range – up to approx. 35 Hz and 20 kN – our pneumatic systems achieve almost identical controllability to hydraulic and electric machines, with significantly better amortisation. Compared with hydraulic systems, the total cost of ownership (energy, cooling, maintenance) is clearly lower. For small to medium dynamic forces, pneumatic is the most economical choice.

How capable are the electric and hydraulic systems?

With a focus on dynamics, our electric and hydraulic machines are on par with established laboratory testing systems in control quality, reproducibility and test frequency.

What standards can be tested to?

We test to your required standard. In medical/implant testing these are frequently ISO 14801 (dental implants), ASTM F1717 (spinal implant constructs, vertebrectomy model), ASTM F2077 (intervertebral body fusion devices), ASTM F382 (metallic bone plates, four-point bending) and ASTM F2193 (spinal screws, plates and rods). Our force measurement complies with ISO 7500-1. We also implement other standards and customer-specific test specifications.

Does DYNA-MESS build custom testing machines to customer requirements?

Yes. Alongside standard testing machines, we develop customer-specific test rigs and special-purpose testing machines – matched to your testing task, load spectrum and standard, from specification through build to acceptance.
